Ontario Players Visit Chicago

July 5, 2004 by Greg Everett

The recent trip by the OAFL all stars to Chicago featured 26 players going to Chicago to play vs. the MAAFL all stars to have a good game of footy and to see the Windy City.

The numbers were a few less than anticipated, and the under 23's weren't all exactly under 23, but we had enough numbers for 2 games (with a few people playing in both games).

Under 23s

The first game featured some amazing footy by the OAFL side, with some beautiful switching and handballing to make it a very one sided game, with the OAFL coming away with an easy victory in some nice sunny conditions. A great game was played by everyone there.

Final Score: OAFL Under 23 (15.13.103) def. MAAFL Under 23 (1.0.6)

Goalkickers: Mike Butcher 3, Rhys Harris 3, Aaron Locke, Richard Mintz, Anatasios Dimackos, Kevin McLean, Adam Patterson, George Dimackos, Rob McIlwain, Clayton Holmes, Dale Simnett

Best Players: all played well

Seniors

The 2nd game was another story, and with the beginning of the game seeing a torrential downpour and thunderstorms, the conditions made the flow of the game very different from the first game. The play was very messy, not allowing easy marks and not letting kicks go as far, and both sides struggled to get goals and even points.

The first half had the OAFL team having the upper hand, but the MAAFL turned things their way in the 2nd half, getting to the ball and making the best of their possessions, kicking a couple of late goals, putting the game away.

Final Score: MAAFL Seniors (2.8.20) def. OAFL Seniors (1.6.12)

It was very disappointing for the visiting team, but it was a good opportunity to bring the team together to play a competitive game and get ready for the big game vs. the USA Revolution on August 1st.

Goalkickers: Richard Mintz

Best Players: Ed Worsfold, George Dimakackos, Jeff Fish, Aaron Falcioni, Anastaios Dimackos, Adam Siddiqui
