OAFL Grand Final Preview

October 5, 2006 by Bill Frampton | View Comments (0)

The 2006 Ontario Australian Football League playoffs conclude this Saturday at 12:00 noon with the League's 18th Grand Final at Humber North Oval in Toronto between the Toronto Eagles and Broadview Hawks.

The Eagles earned their 14th Grand Final appearance two weeks ago when they won the Second Semi-Final. The Hawks qualified for their third appearance in the big game last week with a win in the Preliminary Final. Broadview's previous appearances in 1995 and 1999 were both against the Eagles and the Eagles won both times.

The Eagles (10-4) go in as favourites, having won both previous meetings between the teams this year including the Qualifying Final three weeks ago. It's been three years since the last time Broadview (10-5) beat the Eagles, but after winning two straight to get to the Grand Final they have to like their chances.

Both teams have been playing their best football of the season in recent weeks, this game should be a cracker.

There being no Canadian Nationals at this time the winners will be awarded the Conacher Cup, fittingly named in honour of Lionel Conacher, the greatest all-round athlete in Canadian sports history.
