Mike McFarlanePast AFL Canada President Mike McFarlane was recently recognized in his community for his hard work over the last few years building the North Delta Junior Footy League. Mike was named the Top Honour Recipient in the 2008 Community Leader Awards for Surrey/North Delta.

Mike has built a great base for something very special in BC. There are now more than 150 boys and girls playing footy regularly with a group of eager coaches and parents behind them. Canada's U-17 squad, which defeated the U.S. in August last year, was made up almost entirely from the North Delta league. Congratulations Mike for a great job!

Congrats Mike! I'm looking forward to your juniors bolstering Northwind over the coming years. Many were not looking far off when I saw them play in the U-17 game against the U.S. in Vancouver last year. Hopefully we'll be able to start a similar program like yours here in Ontario.
