Auskick has officially launched in Ottawa!
This week saw the final session of the very first six-week Auskick session run by the Ottawa Swans.
Every Tuesday for the last six weeks Ottawa’s newest Footy fans and their parents have come out to learn some new skills, participate in some Australian Football games and more importantly have fun!
The club ran 3 free ‘Come and Try’ sessions over the summer so kids and parents/carers could come and see what Auskick was all about without having to commit to the full season. Following that 26 Auskickers aged 5-12 were registered and completed the full season.
All Auskickers received an Auskick Pack which included a beanie, some stickers, player cards and their very own Burley Junior Footy to take home!
When asked about the sessions following the season, one Auskicker shared their experiences:
“I am definitely coming back in the spring. I loved learning how to handpass and kick a ball. I’m telling all my friends about Auskick!”
Ottawa Swans President Yaser Abou Elenin attended each session and even ran games, drills and participated in activities – he had this to say about the inaugural Auskick season:
“We’re grateful for the overwhelming support we received both from parents registering their kids in Auskick as well as the various club members who came down to help run the sessions.
A big thankyou to AFL Canada for providing resources and equipment as well, making the operation side of the program very easy.
It’s exciting to see the next generation of Swans running around and we can’t wait to grow the program next year!”
Congratulations to the Ottawa Swans on a successful start to Auskick and we look forward to seeing the program grow in future years.
