AFL Canada is pleased to announce that Dave Kalinowski has been appointed to the role of Head of Coaching Development.
Dave brings extensive coaching experience to the role, most recently as Head Coach of the Calgary Kangaroos. Previously, Dave served as Head Coach of the Calgary Kookaburras and was Assistant Coach for Team Canada Northern Lights, where he contributed to their International Cup win in 2014.
“Coaches have a direct impact on player experience, development, and performance,” said Greg Bridges, Executive Director of AFL Canada. “Dave’s passion for coaching and focus on continuous improvement and mentorship are perfect for this role as he works to increase the number of certified coaches at the club and league level.”
Professionally, Dave brings more than 20 years of experience in sport and recreation, sport governance, and community sport development. On the field, Dave has played high level footy in both Canada and Australia, including a stint in the VFL with the Cobourg Tigers.
“I’m thrilled to join AFL Canada to elevate the quality and professionalism of coaching throughout the country,” said Dave. “Footy has given me so many opportunities, and I’m excited to give back to the game by fostering a culture and environment where coaches can thrive.”
As Head of Coaching Development, Dave will be responsible for identifying coaches, improving access to AFL and Canadian coaching resources, and growing the number of accredited and Safe Sport Certified coaches at all levels of the game.
“Appointing Dave to this role furthers our commitment to providing more resources to clubs and builds on our capacity to deliver high quality programs,” said David Smith, Chair of AFL Canada. “By working with coaches at every stage of their development, Dave will help to improve the level of footy being played across Canada.”
Dave’s appointment follows a Call for Applications and an extensive interview process. He was unanimously approved for the role following the most recent meeting of the Board of Directors. His appointment is effective immediately.
